Who We Are

Broadwater County Social Services Committee (BCSSC) acts as a networking organization for agencies and groups that provide physical and mental health support to residents of Broadwater County. The group provides information, makes people aware of resources, and coordinates grants and activities that provide services to members of the county.

What We Do

Because we facilitate a large Youth Initiative grant from the Turner Foundation, a number of our programs are related to youth, including supporting the Townsend Youth Council, the Middle School Advisory/Community Service program, the Townsend After School/Summer program, the Kids Count program, and the Wyse Acres Courtyard. Programs include sponsoring activities related to healthy lifestyles and decision making, prevention education, and youth leadership. Other activities provide youth with community involvement opportunities and positive summer activities under adult supervision. Kids Count provides funding for school supplies and clothing for needy students in the community. Finally, the Wyse Acres program is being developed to offer education and experience in the areas of agriculture, horticulture, conservation…. and as a byproduct, career and life long skills, as well as an appreciation of the land.

Several other programs serve both youth and adults in the community, including the Wyse Acres program and assistance with domestic abuse victims.

Finally, BCSSC assists several separate groups in the community as a fiscal sponsor, including the Food Pantry, the Heaven Sent shop, the Heritage Gardens Committee, and the Farmers' Market organization. The Food Pantry provides food to needy families in the community, and the newly organized Heaven Sent shop provides services ranging from clothing and household items to assistance finding temporary housing, prescription medicine supervision, and domestic abuse assistance. The Heritage Gardens Committee and Farmers' Market groups promote skills and careers in the agricultural fields and promote the heritage of Broadwater County's oldest industry.
