VA Montana Health Care System

VA Montana Health Care System is the Medical Facility located at Fort Harrison, on the west edge of Helena.  We are the only Department of Veterans Affairs hospital in the state of Montana. 

Our facility provides health care to Veterans.  We have many services available for our Veterans.  These include:  primary care, surgical, vision, dental, radiology, chiropractic, physical therapy, behavioral health, prosthetics, laboratory, and neurology.  We also have special programs for Homeless Veterans and Veterans who are being treated for PTSD and substance abuse.

Our volunteers serve in many capacities:  driving DAV vans to transport Veterans to and from their appointments, greeters, administrative duties, transporting specimens to the Lab, assisting the Physical Therapy, Recreational Therapy, working as a courier to deliver items to other facilities.

We are the Voluntary Service for VA Montana Health Care.  Our office is located in the VA hospital at Fort Harrison - on the west edge of Helena.   We recruit volunteers for many positions; taking into account the interests of the volunteer and the needs of the facility. 

Volunteers receive credit for the time they serve.  Volunteers receive pins, at certain benchmarks, with the number of hours spent volunteering.  Each year, in the spring, a volunteer appreciation banquet is held and all volunteers are invited to attend.

We process all donations made to VA Montana.  Material items, such as clothing, books or toiletry items are distributed to Veterans who are inpatients.  Monetary donations also are processed in our office, with the funds going into the area of the donor's choice.  These funds are used to purchase items for Veterans who are inpatients.  We are able to provide many things for our Veterans through donated funds, that otherwise, our facility could not provide.
