Who We Are

Inspired by her father’s inability to read and write, Dolly Parton started the Imagination Library in 1995 to serve the children of her hometown in Sevier County, Tennessee. Today, her program spans five countries and gifts over 3 million books each month to children around the world. In Montana, First Lady Susan Gianforte was so inspired by the program’s impact that she led the effort to expand Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in the state. In June 2023, in partnership with The Dollywood Foundation, Dolly Parton's nonprofit organization, she announced that the program was available statewide. This expansion means books are now available for free to children until their 5th birthday in every county in Montana.

What We Do

Imagination Library of Montana is an initiative of the Treasure State Foundation and inspires a love of reading in Montana by providing free books to children from birth to age 5. The Imagination Library of Montana mails free high-quality and age-appropriate books to Montana children each month. Available to all Montana children under age 5!
