The SAVE (Student Advocates for Valuing the Environment) Foundation is a non-profit founded on the principle that few motivated students can make a difference in their community. SAVE was created to advocate the 3R's: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, and promotes sustainable daily habits. SAVE offers the primary source of plastics recycling in Helena with it's bimonthly collections, as well as many other unique recycling opportunities for the area. SAVE helps put on an electronic waste recycling event each fall, and recycles for various events such as Brewers games and Alive@5. SAVE also maintains a regular business route to collect recycling from area businesses, a route that now includes some 80+ clients. The trucks that are used to pickup the recycling run on biofuel made from used cooking oil, donated by local restaurants. SAVE also provides public education on biofuel-making, gray water systems, and many other sustainable practices.
What We Do
SAVE began as a student recycling effort at Carroll College, and in 2004 gained non-profit status. Since then, SAVE has been involving students and the greater community in educational outreach. SAVE now offers student internships, maintaining its youth base, and has student clubs at both Helena high schools and Carroll.
