Volunteer as a Government Operations Service Associate and play a key role in building and maintaining partnerships between the American Red Cross and government agencies.

 

In this role, you'll represent the Red Cross in Emergency Operations Centers (EOCs) and other coordination settings—both during disasters and in preparedness and recovery efforts. Government Operation volunteers help ensure Red Cross services align with government plans, share critical information, and support collaborative planning across the disaster cycle.

What You'll Do: 

Build relationships with emergency management and other government partners.Represent the Red Cross in meetings, coordination centers, or virtually.Share updates between Red Cross and government to support aligned response and recovery.Contribute to planning efforts related to mass care and long-term recovery.Help maintain situational awareness and respond to information or resource requests

 

Location: Virtual or In-Person (depending on local needs)

Commitment: A few hours per month, with increased need during active disaster events. Training is provided.

Help honor and support military members, veterans, and their families by representing the American Red Cross at monthly meetings with local military and veteran support organizations. As a Service to the Armed Forces Event Support volunteer, your primary role will be attending these meetings to strengthen partnerships, share Red Cross resources, and collaborate on initiatives that benefit the military community. You'll also assist at local events such as Military Stand-downs, Yellow Ribbon programs, parades, and more. Key Responsibilities:

We need dedicated healthcare volunteers year-round to support Red Cross teams responding to local disasters, such as home fires, floods, and wildfires, as well as during larger-scale emergencies. Your expertise can make a difference both in-person and virtually by providing support in the following ways:

Address the unmet disaster-related health needs of impacted individuals, families and communities.Provide hands on care within RN-led model.Provide health assessments and guidance.Provide assistance with replacement of medication, durable medical equipment, glasses, dentures and other medical supplies.Support individuals with disabilities and functional and access needs.Supplement the community healthcare delivery system, if needed.

As a licensed mental health professional, you can provide compassionate support to individuals and families as they navigate the aftermath of a disaster.

Disaster Mental Health volunteers play a crucial role in alleviating disaster-related stress and trauma by providing essential mental health support, including:   

Emotional Support: Address immediate emotional needs and offer compassionate support to disaster-impacted individuals.Coping and Resilience: Educate clients on coping strategies and resilience-building techniques.Resource Connection: Facilitate access to local mental health resources and services.Community Outreach: Collaborate with local mental health agencies to strengthen community resilience.Education and Training: Provide ongoing education and support to disaster responders and the community on emotional responses to disasters.

Help us document and celebrate lives saved through the Red Cross Home Fire Campaign! As a Lives Saved Lead, you'll play a critical role in recognizing the impact of our preparedness efforts by verifying cases where smoke alarms or preparedness education helped clients escape a home fire. Documenting these stories helps raise awareness, gain support, and ultimately save more lives.

Responsibilities:

Collaborate with the National Community Preparedness & Resilience Services team to identify and cross-reference cases of documented home fires with addresses where the Red Cross previously installed smoke alarms or provided preparedness education. Verify details of each case to confirm if Red Cross interventions helped individuals escape safely.Accurately document cases of lives saved for potential recognition by our Communications team.

Location & Time Commitment:
This role is flexible and can be performed remotely. Time commitment is approximately 5-10 hours per month, with the potential for additional hours depending on case volume.

Volunteer as a Duty Officer and make a vital impact in local disaster response. As a Duty Officer, you'll be the first point of contact for individuals in our region seeking assistance by answering initial calls and dispatching local Red Cross volunteers to support families affected by home fires and other disasters. Your efforts will ensure that those in need receive essential temporary relief, including safe shelter, food, and clothing. No prior experience is necessary—comprehensive training will be provided.

Location: 100% Virtual - you can help during times of disaster from the comfort of your own home!

Time Commitment:

The Duty Officer position is broken up into 6-hour shifts where you would be on-call to answer the phone and would need access to a computer.  Ideally, we ask that volunteers be willing to take one shift per week for at least a six month commitment. Shift Hours: 12am-6am, 6am-12pm, 12pm-6pm, 6pm-12am. As a volunteer, you would have the ability to sign-up for the days and times that work best for you.
